FEEL OF AIPMT 2010
“Accept challenges, so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory”

The just concluded AIPMT (Prelims) was just one of the challenges to be able to successfully combat the final AIPMT. If you were a determined student aspiring for a career in medicine or dentistry then this exam has just given this purpose a lifeline.  Jumping over the hurdle of this preliminary examination will ensure a smooth finish for the final AIPMT which is just a few weeks away.

Tackling an exam of such high proportions requires a firm strategy. This helps you in identifying your strong areas and when you tackle the final you are sure of yourself.

HIGHLIGHTS

The difficulty level was similar to that of last year’s.

Of the three sections of Biology, Chemistry and Physics the toughest one was the Chemistry segment with organic chemistry creating a tussle. Then came Physics followed by Biology.

  • Segregating the priority questions into their degree of importance should be done at a quick glance through the paper.

  • As there is no sectional break-up, so choosing your questions from your strong areas should be first priority.

  • Your strong area is clearly the Biology fraction of the paper.

  • As a medical aspirant your first priority should be to attempt questions from the above mentioned portion in order to clear the cut-off.

  • The next wise move would be to go for the conceptual questions from the Physics segment of the paper.

  • Numericals could have been attempted before the conceptual questions, as they were the ‘sitters’ of the paper. Having your formulas firmly grounded in the recesses of your mind was the need of the hour!

  • Other formulae based question type were the problems in Chemistry. This area was where the ‘speedbreakers’ hampered your progress.

  • Descriptive questions are where the thinking caps come on. These were the obstructions which take up precious time so unless you are absolutely sure of the answer, leaving them for the last would have been a smart move.

  • It is not necessary to circle all blocks in the OMR sheet as it is not an indication of more marks.

BIOLOGY

Starting on an optimistic note, 100 questions were devoted to Biology. A confidence booster section, as AIPMT is all about getting the best possible scores in this area. The questions based on the genetics of life processes, was a good start especially for the bookworm. Biology is that field of science that deals with living things. Broadly classified into Zoology, where animal life is dissected, and Botany where plant life is classified, this particular area is a knowledge based area and requires exhaustive reading and memorizing. An enthusiast on the lines of Darwin and Pasteur would have had a field day with these questions types.

In comparison with last year’s questions this year the difficulty level was a shade less with most questions being text based. For a Career Forum student this segment was a piece of cake as the PreAIPMT Test papers covered all the question types effectively.

PHYSICS

Grappling the laws of Physics were 50 easy questions. Here that branch of Science is dealt with exhaustively by formulating questions on the scientific study of matter and energy and the interaction between the two. Questions were based on basics of modern physics, electrostatic and magnetism. While some questions were based on finding resistance in electric circuits. A few sums on Mechanics were also expanded upon.  The few questions on Force, velocity and momentum could have been covered speedily as they were not very difficult. Questions on nuclear physics were also given weightage.

This section was by far a tougher one than the other two.

CHEMISTRY

Finally the remaining 50 questions were from Chemistry. This branch of science deals withthe natural sciences dealing with the composition of substances their properties and reactions. After a brief tussle with the energized matter of the laws governing physics the chemistry involving covalent bonds of organic compounds re-energized you. Some sums based on laws of physical chemistry, a few reactions involving products of organic compounds and explosive reactions between acids and salts. All formed a part of this section.

This part of the paper was a relief in many ways for the Career Forum student as there were many familiar questions. Most of the questions were reflected in the just concluded PreAIPMT test series.

As compared to last year’s PreAIPMT this year’s questions were by far a tougher proposition to deal with!

A FINAL SAY

This paper was just a prelude for more demanding times to come. The final AIPMT to be held on
16th May requires an entirely different approach!  This time the final AIPMT will be an entirely objective type paper. So be prepared for any surprise elements in the paper.

Let this not be a deterrent in your preparation for the final. Having succeeded in your prelims you have the grit and ability to fly through your finals. Remember a positive approach gets the desired results.

Random answering is a definite ‘NO’, to build up a good score! There are no two ways in such a situation. As an aspirant for a medical degree from a professional college you have to be 100% sure of your subject.

All the best for the Final AIPMT!

We leave you with this thought,
“Your thoughts are the architects of your destiny”.
