MGIMS Wardha MBBS Entrance Examination for admission to July 2010 Session was conducted on 18th April at 4 centers (Nagpur, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai) across India.
The pattern remained consistent with the students leaving the centers without the paper as per the trend. The analysis given below is based on the verbal feedback from the entrance aspirants and career forum students. We are trying to regenerate the feel which all students might have experienced.
Difficulty Level of the paper:
The shock was the difficulty level of question shooting up the standard level. The pattern of questions in all the subjects were based on national level study curriculum / syllabus. The paper was difficult than 2009.
Paper – I (Physics, Chemistry & Biology)
The first paper comprised of 180 multiple choice (MCQs) type questions with 4 options, to be attempted in 180 minutes (3 hours). All questions carried 1 mark and there was no negative marking.
The paper was a surprise to the students. The paper was above average along with the fact that there were too many questions on few specific topics.
PHYSICS
The Physics section of the paper was strong with around 40 theoretical questions and the rest as numerical questions. National Boards XII syllabus was dominating the question level.
Mechanics and Properties of Matter topics were totally wiped out of question set. Modern Physics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, and Electromagnetic Induction & AC questions were packed in, with few questions of Optics and Oscillations. Other topics were just touched with only a single question from each. Few questions were directly asked on formulae.
It was a more of theoretical paper and can be standardized as AVERAGE in scoring. A score of 30+ will be required to maintain your name in the merit list.
CHEMISTRY
Like last year (2009) Chemistry section was the toughest of all. As per the syllabus mentioned in the MGIMS brochure, the section was dominated by Organic and Inorganic questions. The section was evenly distributed with all topics and was more focused on chemical reactions. Students from state boards may not find the paper very friendly. Few questions were there on topics like metallurgy and stoichiometry.
Overall, the chemistry section was Tough and still we expect that an aspirant should have attempted the complete section. The expected score required will be 25+.
BIOLOGY
Biology section of MGIMS 2010 was another smooth part, if a student is aware of the basic biology concepts. Appreciably more coverage was there on Botany questions from Plant Morphology & Anatomy, reproduction in angiosperms, etc, rather than Zoology topics. CBSE Board students would find a couple of topics very easy. Genetics, Evolution and Applied Biology topics almost vanished from the paper as speculated. There were few questions on classification and cell division.
Biology section although did have many surprises, but can be treated an EASY to AVERAGE scoring paper. So the expected score can go high upto 35+.
Paper – II (Gandhian Thoughts)
The second paper was simpler than expectation. All the questions in the paper were from the book on “Gandhian Thoughts”. The paper was as usual loaded with easy-type questions on Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy, thoughts and practices to be attempted in 180 minutes (3 hours) for 60 marks. There were 7 subjective questions of which aspirants were expected to attempt 5. Though the paper was a easy one, but scoring in subjective questions make it a tough situation.
The questions were based basically on his upbringing, practices of truth and non-violence. There was nothing on Gandhiji & spirituality. A score of 40+ will make any student get into the merit list.
Expected CUT-OFF for MGIMS 2010
Career Forum analysts consider the MGIMS 2010 paper as average-plus. There will be appreciable change in the cut-off, subject to the rise in the number of entrance applicants.
As last year in 2009, the cut-off for final round of admission was 174 marks out of 240 marks, this year the cut-off may fall considerably looking at the difficulty level of the paper. A score of 130+ should fetch you a seat in the esteemed institute.
