VIT is the first institution in India accredited by the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET).

VIT University, Vellore offers B.Tech program in 12 different streams as follows:

Bioinformatics
Bio-Medical Engineering
Biotechnology
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Science & Engineering
Electronics & Communication Engineering
Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
Information Technology
Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical & Energy Engineering

Difficulty level of the Paper

VITEEE was of two and a half durations and had 120 objective type questions from class 11th and 12th syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. Students are expected to attempt along with the compulsory Physics and Chemistry sections, any one of Biology or Mathematics. The overall syllabus of the tests coincided with the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus of the subjects. There is no negative marking.

Similar to last year the question paper was taken back after the test. Since the paper was not given out to the students, we at Career Forum had to base our analysis on the feedback from the students and our own expertise.

Sectionwise Analysis of the Paper:

Physics:

This section generally as usual dominated by the topics from Electromagnetic Induction, Electrostatics, Electrical Measurements and Current Electricity. Modern Physics and Magnetostatics ware also equally weighted in the paper. Optics and Semiconductor-devices had just one question each. The section was quite easy for the Career Forum students and test series aspirants. They got many questions common in the test. An average attempt of 35 questions correctly would give you a scope in the merit list.

Chemistry:

Dominated by the Organic section topics like nomenclature, different types of Carbonyl and Nitro compounds. The questions were basically one step reaction based and hence were not really time consuming. Few questions were asked on names of reagents. Paper was discretely fitted with questions from Isomerism, colligative properties, 15 & 16 group elements, quantum numbers. Topics like chemical kinetics and electrochemical cells also had few questions. The paper was of the difficulty level acquainted with the Career Forum students. They found the chemistry paper quite well known and hence easy to average. Any student is expected to attempt around 30-35 questions correctly from chemistry to get in to the merit list.

Mathematics:

The mathematics section was a composite of calculus topics ranging Applications of Diffferential Equations, Derivatives, Maxima-minima and Definite integrals. There were also questions from Applications of Conics, complex numbers, determinants and probability. The mathematics section was above average in the difficulty level. An aspirant should have attempted 30+ questions correctly to get into a good rank.

Biology:

Biology was also not surprising. Genetics and Biotechnology questions dominated the paper, followed by topics from life processes – reproduction in angiosperms, animals, humans; immunity and diseases, cell structure, environmental science and population and Evolution. The biology paper required a complete idea of the topics in syllabus. None of the areas were left untouched. So it would be in either extremes to score in this section. Extensive study with proper understanding of the topics would have given the aspirants a chance to score. An attemptability of 30+ questions should fetch a good rank in the merit list.

Expected Cut-off:

Career Forum analysts consider the VITEEE 2010 paper as EASY to AVERAGE. There might not be any appreciable change in the scoring range. A score of 95+ should give you a rank in the merit list.

Results & Counselling:

Results of VITEEE 2010 would be published in the website, www.vit.ac.in on or before May 8 2010. Counselling would be held for the candidates who obtained the first 13,000 ranks from June 2 to 14 as per the following schedule:

Ranks Date of Counselling
1-3000
June 2
3001-5000

VIT would be providing IGNITE Scholarships, which comprised three categories, totally worth Rs. five crore. In the first category, 100% tuition fee waiver would be provided for the top three higher secondary examination rank holders in each State, totally numbering about 200 students.
