Moonlighting |
|
Moonlight is in reality the light reflected from the surface of the moon. But ‘Moonlighting’ is a term used for working at a secondary job, usually in the evening or during the night, often secretly, so that one doesn't have to pay tax on the extra money earned.
People working multiple jobs come from just about every demographic group -- across all ages, races, genders, marital statuses, geographic locations, and education levels -- from the very young to the highly educated. More men moonlight, though the number of women doing so has risen dramatically over the last decade.
Moonlighting or working multiple jobs at the same time is gradually catching on as more young people sacrifice their free time for the chance to do something more rewarding (either professionally, financially or otherwise). So, what is it that makes them take up a second job? What is it that gives them the vigour and will to carry on when, at the end of a long day, their body says, 'No way!' but their spirit says, 'Oh yes!'
Why Moonlighting?
People have all sorts of reasons for taking a second job. Some do it as the beginning of a career-change move, gaining experience in a new career field before making the full switch. Others work multiple jobs to simply meet living expenses. Still others do it (usually on a temporary basis) to earn extra money. Finally, others do it because they simply enjoy the second job.
A moonlighter needs excellent time management skills; otherwise job burnout is quite likely.
Rainy days and aspiring for better lifestyles....
A secondary job ensures a comfortable existence and a better lifestyle in terms of monetary benefits. Who would not want that extra income to buy the newly marketed LCD or a new bike for their college going child? These are things which would have otherwise not been affordable on one paycheck. Sometimes the reason is very simple to be able to sustain oneself for the rainy day.....
An enhanced quality of work life....
Sometimes the humdrum of a regular job gets monotonous and hence spicing it up with another job certainly does wonders to pep up your work quotient. It can be another task at your own workplace...but without creating too many ripples if multitasking is possible then why not? This will improve quality of work and maybe even quantify it earning accolades.....
Chasing dreams
The job one is doing may not necessarily be the ideal dream job. One can get into a job and carry on because it is bringing in a fat paycheck. But if one is passionate enough about pursuing a hobby and feel it can also work as a profession pursuing both will guarantee mental satisfaction.
The Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde syndrome can well be brought out into the open with this kind of Moonlighting. Doing one job by day and another by night...
This concept is fast gaining momentum in many countries across the world and especially in the US one in every 17 citizens is Moonlighting their way to success.
