Cut-off Calculation : Graphical Analysis
Preparing for the CAT is not just learning and revising English
grammar or number theory and geometrical figures or reading
up caselets with premises and conclusions. Knowing the CAT and
its unpredictable ways, an awareness of the kind of scores you
need to achieve is very crucial. The following pages have been
created after a thorough analysis of the trends the CAT has
shown over the past five years.
Getting you familiar with the concept of cut-offs and giving
you an in depth knowledge of the kind of scores which will be
required to clear the cut-offs, is listed below in tabular form.
Keeping in mind the difficulty level and paper pattern this
table will help you understand what you have to aspire and aim
for in the final CAT.

Bringing you a comparative analysis of the past five years’
papers, along with the scores, percentiles and cut-offs for
each year. Based on this analysis, we are able to construct
a cut-off chart with a high probability of accuracy.
A look at the graph clearly shows that over the years
CAT aspirants have shown a consistent performance in terms of
scoring. This trend is significant to all future CAT aspirants
that no matter what difficulty level has been exhibited in the
CAT the percentiles have more or less remained steady.

Note: We have scaled the scores of CAT 2004
and CAT 2005 out of 300, to compare them with CAT 2006 and
CAT 2007.

Although there are a large number
of colleges that accept CAT scores, each one has its own
specific requirements and specifications. Even though
there are always examples available of people who have
managed to get in even without fulfilling all of those
specifications, by and large they will hold a certain
value, and before applying, each of you should identify
whether or not you will personally be able to meet the
requirements; otherwise you are just increasing your own
chances of being disappointed.
Over the years Career Forums predictions of cut-offs have
more or less matched up to that declared by the IIMs and
other non-IIM B-Schools accepting CAT scores. Hence this
year too we will maintain the same standard.
