The IIT Schools of Management (IIT SoMs) are the management
schools/departments of the Indian Institutes of Technology,
located in the cities of Kharagpur, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai,
Kanpur and Roorkee. They award post-graduate degrees in Management.
The JMET conducted by the IITs and Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore is a competitive test conducted for admission to the
graduate programs in Management at the six IITs and the IISc.
Each institute conducts group discussions and personal interviews
to evaluate the students short listed after the test.

IIT Bombay established its management school in 1995 with a
vision to take India to a higher growth terrain by training
managers with a very strong technological background. This management
school was later renamed in 2000 in the honour of Mr. Shailesh
J. Mehta, who has been an alumnus as well as a generous contributor
to the institute. The School espouses the belief that the technology
offers a tenable edge by providing competitive strategies for
overcoming all business challenges.
SJMSoM is a management institute of great repute and the academic
& industrial linkages can be leveraged to make the best
out of management curriculum. It has various exchange programmes
with universities all over the world like Kellogg, Connecticut,
Hoseo and BaaN. Life at IIT is enriching and a lot of fun especially
with seminars, workshops, Continuum and Mood indigo.
Well, if we talk about events and festivals, Moodi would not
need any introduction. It has been a major national event
for years now and colleges from all over India participate
in it. Continuum is a more technical event which comprises
of rolling seminars which bring together prominent people
from various sectors to one platform for knowledge sharing.

are winter projects and summer projects divided between the
semesters there are live projects after the

IIT Kharagpur

IIT Kharagpur is the oldest of the IITs and VGSoM was the
first management school ventured into the IIT system in 1993
by a group of distinguished alumni. The premier hub of technology
study in India today, initiated this management school with
a vision to develop managers who would be able to understand
and appreciate both the critical technology related issues
and their management implications.
Management schools at IIT offer unique programmes that are
rare combination of management and technology. Ranked 13th
among the top government colleges, VGSoM is one of the pioneer
institutes for management studies.
IITs have been known for bringing uniqueness along with its
brand name. Life at VGSoM is not just confined to its curriculum.
There are different clubs, events and fests that keep its

is a marketing magazine and MADison is a marketing and branding

The Department of Management Studies was added to the league
of IIT B-Schools in 1997 and the program curriculum was designed
keeping in mind the changes in business environment and the
need of the industry. DMS has taken the fame of the institute
beyond geographical boundaries. They have been invited to
various international activities and the faculty has been
given prestigious fellowships from the Royal Asiatic Society
London, ARTDO International Manila, All India Management Association
Delhi, Indian Society for Training & Development Delhi
and other major national and international professional associations.
Confluence: “The idea series” is a monthly series
of seminars where speakers and gurus of different sectors
come on a common platform to share their insights. DMS was
instituted with a vision to render trained managers for different

IIT Kanpur

IIT Kanpur was the first IIT in the country to recognize
the need of combining the training of engineers with the management
studies so that the trained professional are more competent
and have a greater understanding of the changing economy and
business trends. The course in MBA began as a two year program
in 2001 and is offered by the department of Industrial and
Management Engineering. This course aims at honing specialization
skills with the management abilities for fiercely competitive
market of business today.
An institute of IIT’s repute guarantees greater competitive

IME is a great learning experience with monthly news letters,

This foundation course encompasses all management fields imparting
skills and knowledge in various fields like accounting, finance,
computing, business communication, operations management,

Then in the 3rd and 4th semester, students can take up specialization
based on their interest areas and projects undertaken. The
electives can be taken up in myriad fields like entrepreneurship,
optimization, software engineering, TQM/six sigma, technology
management, econometrics, international business, database
design, computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIMS),
SAP and organizational behavior.
IIT Roorkee

The Department of Management Studies in Indian Institute
of Science was established in 1948 and is one of the oldest
management schools in the country today. MBA program was started
exclusively for engineering graduates so that they are competent
and responsible enough in the competitive business world.
Technology boomed towards the beginning of the 20th century,
the market grew and hence demand for more competent engineers
with business acumen grew. The course offered by the department
proved to be very relevant as it trained its students for
